I’ve made a career winning for the underdog against the giants. This usually meant I was representing the tenant. In this instance though, I wonder how many of these landlords that Starbucks is pressuring are small businesses and individuals. Free-standing NNN investments are often owned by retirees. I might be willing the cross the fence for this cause. It is though, a handy place to go the bathroom when you’re on the road. When your opponents’ rationale for a concession relies solely on its heft, it time to “go to the ground” jui jitsu fashion, and teach them a lesson.
